Nominations are now open and will close on April 6.

The tagset is here.

You can nominate four fandoms and five characters or relationships from each.

Please use the following format when nominating relationships: "Relationship: Yoko Tsuno/Khany" for romantic and/or sexual relationships and "Relationship: Hannibal Barca & Scipio Africanus" for platonic relationships. These example relationships are already in the tagset, under Yoko Tsuno (Comics) and Ancient History RPF, for ease of reference.

Characters can be nominated as is, for example "Shuri (Marvel)" under "Black Panther (2018)". Disambiguation might be needed to avoid confusion or tag drift, however.

What qualifies a fandom?

Small fandoms should have no more than 500 fics on Ao3 that are completed, in English and over one thousand (1k+) words. All characters and relationships in a small fandom are eligible in that fandom for this exchange.

Fandoms can be included in the exchange even if they don't meet the above requirements. Large fandoms for media released between Yuletide sign-ups and Night On Fic Mountain nominations will still be considered (sometimes new fandoms blow up unexpectedly). These fandoms will only be eligible once.

Inactive fandoms can also qualify. Inactive fandoms may not meet the above requirements, but if they have had fewer than 24 new stories on AO3 for at least the past three years posted per year (not counting any stories posted to Yuletide collections), they will be eligible. (Exceptions to this may be made if there is a spike in posting due to someone uploading old fic, or if a fandom-specific archive is being backed up to AO3. This will be determined on a case-by-base basis.)

ARGH the Black Panther (2018) movie just barely doesn't qualify (517 works) if I did the sorting right (I have trouble with sorting by wordcount/date on AO3, which makes me feel incredibly stupid). Is it possible to appeal for that fandom? (If not, totally fine! I was just wondering.)

(I also think a lot of that is Civil War fic, since when I reverse sorted it, it starts at 2016? And I'm more interested in Black Panther-specific fic. Again, sorry if this is out of line.)

This will not be possible. You may nominate and request both fandoms and prompt a crossover in your optional details.

xx_relations_xx is a prompt fest rather than an exchange, but it is focused on crossovers and currently ongoing.

There are exchanges where crossovers can be nominated, such as fandom5k, chocolateboxcomm, trickortreatex for example. crossoveringis a crossover-based exchange.

Thanks for the response. Trick or Treat doesn't allow crossovers as they match on characters only not relationships. Crossoverings only matches on fandoms. The crossovers that I'm interested in are between tiny fandoms, so I've never had any luck in other exchanges with them.

I think your best bet is to do crossovering (and ask mods to allow ship or character nominations/matchings like I'll do again this year, though the gifters mostly try to write the suggested characters rather than going with their own preferences, in my experience, so there's that).

Would The Punisher count as a new fandom given it was released on Netflix in November? Or would it being part of the wider Defenders verse disqualify it?

I have a similar question. I was assuming that The Defenders would qualify as it only has 418 works and Punisher would qualify for newness. But I guess it depends on if every TV show is treated separately?

Awesome, thanks! If it makes a difference, I'd be nominating a just-Punishers pairing (Karen/Dinah) and it looks like it's only a bit above the 500 work limit, but I totally understand if you don't want to risk opening a can of worms of bigger pairings that cross more with the other shows.

Are smaller spin offs/side stories/prequels/sequels belonging to large franchises allowed? For example a Star Trek comic or a Star Wars book.

Such spinoffs/etc are allowed, as long as they are separate from and/or possible to understand without knowing the whole franchise. For example, "Star Wars Legends: Thrawn Trilogy - Timothy Zahn" would be an eligible fandom while the novelisation of The Force Awakens would not be.

This issue cropped up in the nominations for last year’s exchange. I just wanted to check it would still be acceptable for this year.

I would like to nominate 18th Century CE RPF. As of writing this message, the number of works in that category stands at 1217. When filtered using your other criteria (English, completed, >1000 words), this number falls to 741, which is still too high to qualify.

However, this category is also bulked out by a lot of fic for the musical Hamilton (AO3 tag “Hamilton - Miranda”), which presumably features the fictionalised figures from the show, rather than being straightforward historical RPF. Once those fics are omitted, and your other criteria are taken into account, that leaves just 290 fics in the 18th Century CE tag.

Like the poster who made the same query last year, the historical figures I would like to nominate don’t feature in Hamilton, are not from American history, and their character tags on AO3 contain fewer than 10 works. Would that still be acceptable?

I have a question about tagging platonic relationships. If I'd like a story about a number of characters (let's say four), should I nominate thusly:

"Relationship: Person One & Person Two & Person Three & Person Four"

or input each character seperately and then select them all in my request when I sign up?

Not a mod, but this isn't like Yuletide where you'd match on all characters, but rather you're only guaranteed to match on one character. If you requested the four character separately, you might might match someone who only offered one of them. If you only want to see them all together instead of any combination of them alone or together, it's probably best to nominate them as a relationship instead of separately.

"Relationship: Person One & Person Two & Person Three & Person Four" is the format to use if you want a story about this 4-people relationship. If you nominate and request the component people independantly, you may not receive a work focusing on the 4-people relationship.

What are the guidelines on nominating All Media Types/Parent tags if the entire series would easily qualify under eligibility?

For example: Macross - All Media Types contains the original Macross, Macross Zero, Macross Frontier, etc. These are basically all in the same universe/continuity and often have one or two characters carry over between entries.

Could I nominate the Macross - All Media Types tag or would you rather I break it down?

In this case (as in most cases) I would prefer if people nominated according to the consensus in their fandom. After that, that they nominate by whatever is easiest for them.

TL;DR: You can nominate "Macross - All Media Types" if that's your preference.

I only have 3 fandoms so far and I'd like to have enough time to familiarise myself with new canons to decide if I can write for them and sign-up or not.

Not mod, but in order to nominate relationships on the character field you have to put "Relationship:" before every ship, and AO3 will accept it. Example:

Relationship: John Childermass/John Uskglass | The Raven King

If the fandom has more versions with the same characters (for example a book and the movie inspired on it) you also should add the title in brackets at the end, example:

Relationship: John Childermass/John Uskglass | The Raven King (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell Novel)
